Darnell Wright will be a national prospect by the time he picks a school. Heck, with more than a dozen offers from some of the country’s top programs, the 2019 West Virginia offensive lineman already is a national prospect.

“I am truly blessed and appreciate each school that has showed an interest in me,” said the 6-foot-6, 285-pounder from Huntington, W.V.

Wright’s offer sheet includes Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Kentucky, Louisville and West Virginia among others.

Wright said the schools like his athletic ability and length.

“I am very raw due to only playing offensive line one year,” he said. “I am still young as I will turn 16 in August. I start on our state championship basketball team as well.”

Wright has visiting many of his offers already, making stops at West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio State.

“They have all been awesome,” he said. “Facilities are amazing and coaches have shown me a lot of attention while on campus. Getting to know current players has been cool as well.”

Wright hasn’t heard a ton from Notre Dame yet, but was invited to a camp this summer, although he couldn’t make the trip. Still, he does know a bit about the Irish and what he knows, he likes.

“Great tradition,” he said. “They play as an independent and have a storied program. They’ve won quite a few championships.”

He’s hoping for another chance to make it out to South Bend in the future.

“I would like to meet coaches and visit campus,” he said. “It’s a school that I would consider for sure.

“I want to learn their offensive scheme and see if I fit in with it. Would like to see campus and the business school.”

Comfort with coaches, players and the school in general will be critical when he does choose a school.

“I want to receive a great education as well that will prepare me for a future outside of football,” he added. “I want a program that is going to push me to be the best player I can be. Want to play for championships as well.”

Wright doesn’t have a timeline for a decision.

“I’m focused on upcoming season with Huntington High and getting better on the field.”
