Xavier Player‍ has drawn interest from many high-level FBS programs as of late and the 2019 Texas cornerback will get a chance to see one of those major schools in a few weeks.

“I have had interest from Oklahoma, Tulsa, Northwestern, Indiana, Houston, Texas State, Navy, Louisiana Tech, SMU, and Colorado,” explained the 5-foot-11, 171-pounder.

During the recruiting process and in talks with each of these high-level universities, they have all expressed the same attitudes they like about the Steele High School standout.

“They’re telling me that they like my film from my sophomore year and that’s what got their attention,” Player said. “They like my coverage, my instincts and that I am live with my feet, and they want to keep in touch with me throughout my junior season.”

Despite not knowing much about Notre Dame, the speedy cornerback was excited when the opportunity presented itself to visit South Bend for a home game.

“I don’t really know much about Notre Dame, just that they are a good football program from the past,” the Texas native said. “I got a letter inviting me to a game of my choice, and I talked to my parents about it and we agreed that it would be a good idea to make it out to a game.”

Player will be in South Bend when the Irish host USC on October 21st and expressed what he is expecting to learn and gather from the visit.

“I am looking to look at their academics and what they have to offer because my education is first,” he explained. “I know that football isn’t always going to be there and I know that my college degree will give me a great job after football.

“I also want to see how their coaches are, how everybody is on the football team and what they like to do. Overall, just how the atmosphere is and what it is like for campus life.”

Despite not having thought much about the factors that would come into choosing a school, the up-and-coming cornerback explains his thought process and what he thinks will be the deciding factor in making his decision in the future.

“The biggest thing is the relationship I have with the coaches and their staff because I know that it will go a long way for my career and everything that has to do with football, so if I know that is great then I know that a lot of other things will turn out good,” expressed Player.

The 2019 recruit has visited UTSA twice, UCLA once, and Houston and has scheduled visits to revisit Texas State and Houston on top of visiting Notre Dame next month.
