No one was talking about Notre Dame and the College Football Playoff heading into the season and why would they?

The Irish were coming off a 4-8 disaster of a season. Brian Kelly completely overhauled his coaching staff and was trying to change the culture of the program in year eight. All of this was a recipe for what many felt could be Kelly’s last season in South Bend.
