After some contact through emails and letters, Cavon Butler‍ decided to visit South Bend this Saturday to watch #13 Notre Dame face off against #11 USC.

“Notre Dame has sent me emails and letters inviting me to all the home games, and they sent me a little brochure for the USC game so I decided to go,” the 2019 Ohio defensive tackle explained

Growing up within a Catholic family, when given the opportunity to visit Notre Dame, the Toledo native jumped at the invitation.

“It is a very good school; I grew up in a Catholic family, so I figured it would be a big opportunity for me to potentially go there,” the Whitmer High School standout expressed.

Butler has some knowledge of Notre Dame, but is excited to learn more during his visit.

“I know that it is a religious school and a very smart school,” Butler explained. “I want to know more about the campus and meet more people such as coaches and learn more about the program.”

The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder has excelled so far this season. The big edge-rusher leads his team in sacks with 8.5 through the first seven games of the season and has been a difference-maker in his team’s 7-0 start.

Despite having no offers yet, the standout defensive lineman has opened the eyes of multiple schools and has created strong interest from FBS schools as of late.

“I have no offers right now, but I feel like Toledo is close and Georgia, Wake Forest, Purdue and Ohio University have all shown interest,” he said.

With contact coming often from college coaches, they have expressed what they like about the way he plays when they look at his film and it has caused him to focus on getting better daily.

“Coaches like my explosiveness off the ball, my pursuit and how I use my hands,” Butler said. “I work on my explosiveness off the ball and my hands all the time.”

Butler has already visited a couple schools such as in-state school Toledo and Ohio State and he plans to visit Purdue and Eastern Michigan soon.

The Whitmer junior has plenty of time to make his decision on where he wants to play his football, but with visits already complete and more visits coming up, it has gotten him thinking about what the most important factors will be when he makes his final decision in the future.

“Somewhere that is close to family because I am big family person, and somewhere that gives me the best academic opportunity.”
