2019 Katy Taylor (Texas) offensive lineman Andrew Coker‍ will head to the Midwest this weekend as the 6-foot-7, 330-pounder will unofficially visit Notre Dame.

“It’s very exciting,” Coker told Irish Sports Daily. “I haven’t really been anywhere up North, so I’m excited to see how it is up there.”

The Texas native hasn’t been in contact with the Notre Dame staff as of yet, but the Florida commit was urged by his mother to give the Irish a look.

“My mom said she has loved Notre Dame since she was a little kid,” Coker stated. “That was one of the schools she wanted to go to, so she wanted me to go visit. I was like ‘Alright momma, let’s go.’”

Coker committed to Florida in June of this year, and it was an easy decision for him.

“Florida is where I have always wanted to go since I was a little kid,” explained Coker. “Going there on a visit and having a good relationship with coach (Brad) Davis and coach (Kerry) Dixon, I knew it was the place to be.”

It hasn’t been an ideal situation in Gainesville over the last few weeks, but Coker remains positive about his future and is looking forward to seeing what happens within the program.

“It is troubling to see because you have a relationship with the coaching staff,” stated Coker. “It’s hard to see that, but at the end of the day, you commit to the logo and not the coaching staff.

“If they don’t make any changes, I am perfectly fine with that, but if they do, I have to see how I mesh with the new coaches.”

With his size, it’s not a surprise Coker feels the best part of his game is run blocking. Katy Taylor runs a run-friendly offense, so pass blocking is something he is continuing to work to improve.

“Right now, my strength would be run blocking,” Coker explained. “We run a Wing-T, and my running back has 1,200 yards rushing. I would say I need more reps on my technique when it comes to pass blocking because I’ll probably do that more in college. I need to perfect that part of my craft.”

Coker holds offers from Florida, Indiana and Ole Miss, and while his pledge is firm to the Gators, he is making sure he is making the right choice.

“I’m looking for a place that feels like home,” said Coker. “Anywhere that feels like home is where I want to be. That’s not regarding the weather or anything, but what feels right.”
