Maurice Massey didn’t know a whole bunch about Notre Dame, but when the Irish began reaching out over social media and consistently sending mail, the 2019 Missouri wide receiver figured he’d better start learning about the Irish.

“They started hitting me up on Twitter and showing that they were interested,” the 6-foot-4, 185-pounder explained. “After that, they were like, ‘We’ve got to get you up here on a visit.’

“To be honest, at first, I didn’t really know anything about them. Then I started watching them play and looking at stuff. They’re legit. They’re a really good school, they’re a family, their coaches are in sync. They’re one of the top schools in the nation, so it’s all green lights.”

Those green lights will lead the Saint Charles native to make the trip down to South Bend for Notre Dame’s final home game of the season on Saturday against Navy.

“It’s one thing to hear it, but another to actually see it yourself,” Massey said of his upcoming trip. “I want to see the family environment and get to know the coaches one-on-one and see the stadium and see if it’s really about what they say it’s about.”

The Francis Howell North High School standout has nine offers at this point from schools like Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Illinois and Boston College among others.

“It’s exciting, but you’ve also got to stay humble and not be too greedy,” Massey said. “There’s more to come, but just as fast as you got them is as fast as you can lose them. You have to stay truthful to yourself.”

College coaches like the package Massey brings as a receiver.

“The things that I’m able to do at my size and my hands,” he said. “I have the total package.

“I’m an outside receiver, but I could play slot, that’s how I move.”

Massey hasn’t taken many visits this fall outside of a quick stop at Miami-Ohio.

“I was waiting until the season was over, so I’m going to get things rolling pretty soon,” he said.

In addition to Notre Dame, Massey wants to get to schools like Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Kansas, Michigan State, Kentucky, Illinois and Missouri.

He’ll be looking closely at the culture of each program when it comes time for him to make a decision.

“The family environment and if the coaches are all in one, so if one person breaks, the whole thing doesn’t just crumble, like a strong base. And a good school too of course.”
