Maurice Massey‍ started learning about Notre Dame when the Irish started expressing serious interest. The 2019 Missouri wide receiver was impressed with what he found out and ended up scheduling an unofficial visit to South Bend for the Irish’s home finale against Navy on Saturday.

“It was good,” the 6-foot-4, 180-pound St. Louis native said. “Cold, but it was good.”

Massey arrived a little late, but still had the chance to see plenty.

“When I first got there, I went to the recruiting lounge,” he explained. “After that, I did quick photo shoot, which was cool. After that, I had a little tour around campus.

“Then we went down to the field to watch the game. After that, I went into the locker room to see the players and talk with the receivers coach.”

The Francis Howell North standout was impressed by the atmosphere in and around Notre Dame Stadium.

“Even though it was rainy and cold, it was still sold out,” he said. “I was talking to some of the people and they said, ‘Our fans really love football.’ Even though it was raining and cold, that says a lot.”

Irish wide receivers coach Del Alexander was happy to see Massey made the trip.

“He was just talking to me about Notre Dame and how good the team is and sizing me up in person,” Massey recalled. “He wants me to get back up there so we can talk more.”

A return is likely, according to Massey.

“Oh yeah,” he said. “I just want to talk to him more and all of the other coaches because it was kind of rushed.”

He’ll be hitting the road to see more schools in the future, but Notre Dame made a strong first impression.

“Green lights,” he said of the Irish.

“That’s a good school. I’m really interested and will be really looking at them and focusing on them.”
