A position switch this fall led to Leonard Henry‍ receiving increased interest on the recruiting trail.

In his first season as head coach at Grand Blanc High School in Michigan, Clint Alexander moved the 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior from defensive end to inside linebacker and the move caught the attention of college coaches.

“It was a great move,” Henry, who is still waiting on his first offer, told Irish Sports Daily. “With my mobility, I’m able to run sideline to sideline.”

Alexander agreed.

“The coaches I’ve talked to, the biggest thing they liked is that he can cover most of the field,” he said. “He really is the sideline-to-sideline guy, but he’s big in the passing game too. He gets down the field well. He’s really long and gets his hands on a lot of balls.”

Henry and Alexander made the trip down to South Bend last weekend for the Irish’s home finale against Navy along with a couple teammates, 2019 cornerback Kortez Toles and 2019 punter Colton Alexander.

“I really liked it,” the 2019 prospect said. “It was a nice place. I want to come back sometime.

“They have real nice facilities. Everything about the place is just great.”

Alexander is plenty familiar with Notre Dame having sent three players to South Bend from his previous school, Woodberry Forest in Virginia. He had the chance to be there as the last of those three, linebacker Greer Martini, went through Senior Day festivities before having a great game against the Midshipmen.

The weather didn’t allow for a full campus tour and Henry is hoping to return to see more.

“I want to meet the coaches,” he said. “I just want to see more of the facilities more in-depth.”

Henry will be looking at the “culture” of the colleges when it comes time for him to make a decision on schools.

“I want a culture where everybody works together.”
