George Takacs‍ will be up in South Bend for good soon, but the 2018 Notre Dame tight end commit got in one last trip before he enrolls early next month when he took an official visit this weekend.

“I had a great time,” the Florida native said. “It was awesome to get together with all of the commits. I thought it was a great time.

“It’s just great getting together and building a bond with all of the other kids going there before we even get on campus.”

Takacs also had a chance to spend time with head coach Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Chip Long.

“I got to meet with the whole coaching staff, Coach Kelly and Coach Long were great,” he said. “I got to watch a practice to see how that was run. It was definitely a great experience.

“They just told me to get in the weight room as fast as possible to work out and get in shape. They talked about the advantages of coming in early, how I can get into the playbook and get used to the speed of the game.”

After committing to the Irish back in June, Takacs didn’t need to think hard about whether or not to enroll early.

“I’m really serious about football,” he said. “I’m really serious about getting ready to go and playing as soon as I can play. It really made the decision easy for me.”

In addition to spending time with the other commits in town for the Echoes award banquet, Takacs was also doing some recruiting as well.

“I spent a lot of time hanging out with Luke Jones‍,” Takacs said of the Arkansas offensive lineman, who was also taking an official. “It was great talking to him. He’s awesome. I’m really excited about the possibility of him coming here.

“It’s really easy to try to convince an o-lineman to come here with the history they’ve had with Coach (Harry) Hiestand. He’s the best o-line coach in the country. We just talked about that and how it’s not just a great football school but really sets you up for life when you come here.”

Takacs got the sense Jones was enjoying himself.

“I definitely think he was feeling it.”
