SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Tre Mitchell scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Woodstock Academy (Gold) to 91-87 win over Sunrise Christian of Kansas at the Basketbull Hoops Fest here on Saturday.

Mitchell’s Connecticut school currently sits atop the nation’s prep rankings and ran its record to a perfect 16-0 with the victory.

The 6-foot-9, 250-pound junior helped his team shake off a slow start to grab control in the second half.

“I think I started alright, but as a unit, we came out a little slower than usual,” said Mitchell. “I think we held through. We were down the first half, but we came out in the second half very strong, so we did what we had to do to get the win.

“My shot was a little off, but in the post, I had a dominance over my opponent.”

The 2019 prospect is already up to 20 offers from schools like UConn, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Kansas State, Seton Hall, Minnesota and UMass among others.

“It’s humbling, but it shows me where I can be,” Mitchell said. “It also shows me how much more time I have to get my game even better.

“A lot of them say they like my versatility because I can cause a big mismatch issue. They like the way I can shoot the ball and obviously, they like my dominance in the post.”

Mitchell hasn’t taken any visits yet, but is going to try to hit the road in the coming months.

Notre Dame hasn’t extended an offer yet, but Mitchell is a prospect who is definitely on the radar. The Irish have established contact with his coach and mother.

“They were supposed to come watch me last week, but unfortunately I was sick and didn’t play, but they’re supposed to come soon,” he explained.

Mitchell said Notre Dame is definitely a school with which he has interest.

“They have a very good program and on top of that, they have a beautiful campus and they have good academics too,” he said. “That’s huge for me. I want a school that comes with good academics and a great basketball program.”

That’s pretty much what Mitchell is looking for in a school.

“It’s probably going to come down to the best fit that provides a good basketball team and a great education.”
