It was a big morning for the Irish as the program signed 20 players during the first day of the early signing period. However, the excitement was short-lived in a sense as Notre Dame and head coach Brian Kelly announced freshman running back CJ Holmes and sophomore receiver KJ Stepherson have been indefinitely suspended from football activities.

Not the greatest news as Notre Dame prepares for a showdown with LSU in the Citrus Bowl on January 1st.

Stepherson recorded 19 receptions for 359 yards and five touchdowns in 2017 after hauling in 25 catches for 462 yards and five scores as a true freshman.

The Jacksonville native didn’t play in the first four games of 2017, as Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly stated Stepherson needed to improve his “traits” on and off the field.

Holmes got his first taste of action against North Carolina in 2017 and was primarily used on special teams in his first season at Notre Dame. The Connecticut native finished the year with 32 rushing yards on eight carries.
