Notre Dame junior running back Josh Adams has declared for the NFL Draft. He announced it in an Instagram post on Friday afternoon.

He's coming off a monster junior season where he took his game to another level by rushing for 1,430 yards and 6.9 yards per carry, which was seven yards shy of breaking Vagas Ferguson's single-season rushing record at Notre Dame.

Adams finishes his Notre Dame career with 481 carries for 3,198 yards and 20 touchdowns, including scoring on his first carry against Texas in 2015.

The former Central Bucks South standout chose the Irish over Penn State, Pitt, Stanford and Temple.

Adams is also someone who benefited greatly from the new strength and conditioning regime. He was a frequent tackle-breaker and gained several yards after contact this season and also displayed the same kind of breakaway speed on long runs that he flashed as a true freshman. In six games he had runs of 60 yards or more.

His ability as an every-down back will be missed as he developed into a valuable asset in pass protection as well. Even with him leaving, Notre Dame is expected to return Dexter Williams and Tony Jones Jr. Sophomore running back CJ Holmes is expected to return with the team in January, but his future is still in the air after a shoplifting incident in December. Junior Deon McIntosh was sent home from the bowl game due to a violation of team rules, so his future with the program is also in the air.

Early enrollee Jahmir Smith will also be joining the Irish when they return from Christmas break.
