BREAKING: Notre Dame LB Te'von Coney Returning

Notre Dame linebacker Te'von Coney has made a decision.

The Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) native will return to Notre Dame for his senior season.

It was a breakout season for in 2017 for the Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) native as he led the Irish in tackles with 116 tackles in just seven starts. Coney also led Notre Dame in tackles for loss with 13.0.

Rumors swirled Coney was leaning towards leaving early for the NFL before the Citrus Bowl and they heated up after he recorded a game-high 17 tackles in the 21-17 victory.

The 6-foot-1, 240-pounder joins linebacker Drue Tranquill and defensive tackle Jerry Tillery in announcing their return for their final year of eligibility.

ISD's Jamie Uyeyama believes Coney has a chance to be an All-American in 2018.

"The Citrus Bowl performance by Te’Von Coney versus the run was the best I have seen from a Notre Dame linebacker in a long time,” Uyeyama said. “Even Jaylon Smith and Manti Te’o didn’t take over a game to that extent in one area.

“The scary part about Coney this season and is that he still has room to grow under and get better. A second season under Clark Lea should make a difference and more playing time should as well. Whether he shifts over to Mike or remains at Buck, expect to see him used on passing downs. He is a fantastic blitzer that will make more of an impact as a pass rusher and I think he’ll have the tackle, tackle for loss, and sack numbers that will make the national media take notice of him. Together he and Tranquill could be one of the better duos at linebacker in the country.”
