Notre Dame and receiver coach Del Alexander expanded the receiver board late last week. 2019 Independence (Tenn.) receiver TJ Sheffield‍ picked up an offer from the Irish and Notre Dame is a program to watch.

“Coach Alexander spoke with my coach, and then my coach told me I had an offer from Notre Dame," Sheffield told Irish Sports Daily. "I was excited to get the offer. I know I will consider going there."

The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder decommitted from Tennessee in October and has started to research other programs, including Notre Dame.

"I know they a lot of history and tradition," stated Sheffield. "Coach Alexander is a great receiver coach. I like the history up there."

Sheffield already holds offers from Indiana, Ole Miss, Penn State, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, but he isn't letting it get to his head.

"I feel blessed," said Sheffield. "Not many people get to go through this experience. I am just thankful for all the offers."

The Tennessee native hasn't locked in any visit this winter or spring, but Sheffield will likely give the Vols another look after the hiring of Jeremy Pruitt.

"I feel like coach Pruitt is going to pick up the program," explained Sheffield. "He knows how to win and is a great coach. I think he will do a lot of great stuff at Tennessee."

Sheffield wants to find an offense that tosses the ball around a lot, but he's also looking at other aspects of a program when he goes on his visits.

"When I go to a school, I want to feel comfortable around the coaches and be part of a great atmosphere," stated Sheffield. "I want to find a place I can stay at for the next four years."

With the new rule by the NCAA, 2019 prospects can start taking official visits in the spring, but Sheffield hasn't quite gotten that far in the recruiting process.

"I’m not sure yet," said Sheffield.
