BREAKING: Notre Dame Locks Down Keys

2018 McDonogh 35 (La.) receiver Lawrence Keys III‍ had always planned on making his college decision on National Signing Day and the four-star prospect remained firm with that choice, waiting until Wednesday morning to officially commit to Notre Dame.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound New Orleans native visited South Bend with his mother, LaTanya Manning, and took the last receiver spot in the 2018 class.

The Louisiana speedster felt the love from Notre Dame last month when the Irish sent receivers coach Del Alexander and offensive coordinator Chip Long down to New Orleans for an in-home visit.

"They gave factual information, and they kept it real with me about the things Lawrence would encounter at Notre Dame,” stated Manning.

For Manning, education was at the top of the totem pole, and Notre Dame made sure she knew everything she needed to know to feel comfortable sending her son to South Bend.

“The small classroom setting is what stood out to me,” said Manning. “I told them I’m really big on the educational part.”

Notre Dame may not dip into the New Orleans area often, but Keys was already familiar with the program as he had paid close attention to a former Irish receiver.

“I have watched Will Fuller a lot,” Keys stated. “I watched him in the spread offense, and that’s a system that fits me. I like the offense Notre Dame runs a lot.”

Keys joins early enrollee Micah Jones‍ and signees Kevin Austin Jr.‍ and Braden Lenzy‍ in the 2018 receiver haul for Notre Dame.
