2019 Independence (Tenn.) receiver TJ Sheffield‍ has taken visits to various schools over the last few years, but Saturday he got a chance to get to South Bend and the four-star prospect came away impressed.

“It was a great visit,” Sheffield told Irish Sports Daily. “It was good to get to know coach (Del) Alexander and coach (Brian) Kelly more.”

The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder might have enjoyed getting to know Alexander more, but he was impressed with how Alexander gives everyone a fair shake.

“He gives a fair chance for all the wide receivers to play,” stated Sheffield. “He gives them fair reps in practice too.”

Sheffield holds offers from Indiana, Ole Miss, Penn State, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Kelly made sure to stress that Notre Dame would give him a distinct college experience.

“It was cool,” Sheffield said of Kelly’s conversation. “He explained how Notre Dame was different than most of the other colleges. He also said it would be a good fit for me.”

“I know if I went there, I would get a great degree and go out in the real world and make a lot of money. I know I would be successful with a degree from Notre Dame.”

The Tennessee native and his parents were impressed with the facilities and the overall architecture on campus.

“All the buildings were brick,” Sheffield said. “They looked the same, but it was a classic look. It was a nice campus.

“My parents thought it was nice. They know I’ll be making the ultimate decision for whatever college I am going to go to.”

Notre Dame impressed Sheffield, and it’s more than likely he will make a return trip before its all said and done.

“I might come back for an unofficial visit,” said Sheffield. “Notre Dame will probably be in my Top 5 when I release it.”
