Recruitment Rundown: Boy, this was a wild one. Boykin committed to Maryland over the summer, but definitely left his recruitment open. He took an official to Notre Dame in October and by then, most labeled him as an Irish lean. Notre Dame thought it had him wrapped up as the early signing period neared, by for whatever the reason, he held off and decided against signing. When he took an official to Florida in January, it seemed like he was slipping away. He finally decommitted from Maryland a couple weeks ago with the Gators still considered the heavy favorite. But the Irish remained convinced all along that Notre Dame was the best place for him and believed he knew that as well. That conviction led both sides to remaining in contact until the end and Notre Dame pulling it out.

H.D. Woodson HC Greg Fuller: “He’s the Truth with a capital T. There are playmakers and there are true playmakers. Like I just said, he’s the Truth. He’s a true playmaker.

“Since he’s been with us, anytime he touches the ball, he can turn the game around for us. Awesome. He’s just an awesome football player.”

ISD expert Jamie Uyeyama: I think Boykin has a very high ceiling. I see him as someone that isn’t limited to being labeled as a big corner because of his height and think he can be very effective on the outside with some potential to play as a slot corner as well.

Some guys just have a different level of ball skills and that separates them from others at the position.  I think he could eventually develop into a player that is similar to former Washington Husky Sidney Jones. He has similar physical traits to him and is gritty like Jones too. There may not be an opportunity for him to play right away at Notre Dame, but I see him having the chance to become a multi-year starter for the Irish.
