Lawrence Keys Comments On NSD
Prior to making his National Signing Day announcement public, Lawrence Keys III spoke with CCS Prep about why he was choosing Notre Dame.
“During the recruiting process they were great,” the 2018 New Orleans wide receiver said of the Irish.
“I built a relationship with the coaching staff, when I went up there it felt like home and they needed a slot receiver which I am willing to play and make an impact.”
The Louisiana native did watch the Irish beat LSU in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day, but that didn’t have a major impact on his decision.
The Irish coaches are excited about what Keys will bring to their offense.
“Because of my size a lot of coaches and a lot of recruiters look for big guys with height, but I think I can do the same thing as those guys are doing,” he said of smaller wideouts.
Keys’ mother let him make his own decision, but was in Notre Dame’s corner and distance from home was never a concern.
“She told me wherever I go she is going to go, so when I go to South Bend, she is coming there with me as long as I feel comfortable and it feels like home,” he said.
Keys wasn’t intimidated by the rigorous academics at Notre Dame, quite the contrary.
“It was one of the big factors that went into this commitment. You have to think about after football and with a full scholarship to Notre Dame, I can go anywhere in the United States and do something big.”
