He may have kept the coaches and fans of three college football programs in suspense, but Noah Boykin‍ says he made his mind up a few days ago and stuck with his decision in the end.

“I kept it in,” the 2018 Washington, D.C. cornerback said. “I didn’t really respond to anyone. I kept it in from my family. I just waited until the last minute to let everybody know, but I decided over the weekend.”

Boykin let everybody else know he was signing with Notre Dame over Florida and Virginia on Wednesday, National Signing Day, during a ceremony at H.D. Woodson High School.

The Irish coaching staff was obviously in suspense until the end.

Boykin saw the video of the reaction of the Notre Dame coaches afterward.

“It was awesome,” he laughed. “It was very exciting. I was watching that just smiling.”

He had a chance to speak with his recruiter, Notre Dame defensive backs coach Todd Lyght, immediately after the announcement.

“I called Coach Lyght as soon as I ended my Instagram Live,” he said. “He was excited. Just seeing him smile made me feel like I made the best decision of my life.”

The talented defender pointed to his official visit to South Bend way back in October as a key reason fro his choice.

“I just loved it up there and I felt love the from Coach Lyght and Coach (Brian) Kelly,” he said. “I felt it was the best opportunity for me with life after football.”

Boykin says he’ll bring “swag” to the Irish secondary.

“I’m just going to be that dog that I’ve always been since day one.”
