Trey Galloway already has an offer from Purdue and the 2020 Indiana guard is on the radar of several other major college basketball programs, including Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-3 Galloway was in South Bend for the Irish’s win over Florida State last weekend.

“It was a great game, a great win for the Irish,” Galloway’s father and coach at Culver Academy, Mark Galloway, said.

Notre Dame assistant coach Rod Balanis saw Galloway play for Indiana Elite during the AAU season. Balanis was scheduled to check out Galloway and his Culver squad earlier this month, but the game was postponed.

“He’s trying to get down to watch Trey, but obviously they’re in the thick of their season, so it’s tough to make that happen,” Coach Galloway said of Balanis.

In addition to the recent visit, the Galloways were also in South Bend for the Irish’s win over Dartmouth back in December.

“Trey was impressed,” Coach Galloway said. “He was very impressed with Coach (Mike) Brey and the way they play and the type of student-athlete that they recruit. I think that’s one of the things that stuck out with him.”

The Irish explained they see Galloway as a cerebral and versatile player.

“At an early stage, I think that’s something that has stuck out with a lot of coaches, his versatility and his compete level,” his father said. “Anytime someone is saying nice things about you, you like to hear those things. He enjoyed hearing those things from Coach Brey and getting to spend time with him.

“You have to be athletic enough as well to play in the ACC. He’s always going to try to prove himself to be more than just a shooter. He gets pegged that way a lot because he can really shoot it and that’s a strength of his, but he’s athletic. He’s 6-3 and he’s had multiple games where he’s dunking the basketball, making steals, rebounding. I think number one, if you’re going to play in the Big Ten or ACC or any high-major conference, you do have to be athletic, there’s no denying that. That’s probably another reason they’re attracted to him. He’s going to be able to do that at the wing or guard position.”

Coach Galloway described their interest in Notre Dame as “very high.”

“Being close to Culver and being the same type of school, if you will, I think that’s attractive,” he said. “Obviously, it’s a high-academic school and that’s why he’s at Culver as well.”

It also looks like a good fit on the court.

“Traditionally, you watch Notre Dame play and they certainly have guys who know how to keep the floor spread and have good spacing and know how to play the game,” Coach Galloway said. “We’re obviously studying them as much as they’re studying us. I think it’s reciprocated with Trey.

“When he gets in the car after the game and you ask him what he thinks, he’s like, ‘I like the way they play.’ I’m not sure he would say that about Florida State. It’s a different style of game out there. I think he recognizes they’re able to really spread the floor and make plays. They shoot the ball really well and they guard well enough to win games. That’s important.”

In addition to the offer from Purdue, Galloway has received serious interest from schools like Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Butler and Xavier.

“I think building a relationship with all of these schools and coaches is important to us,” his father said.

“We’re definitely going to continue to study programs. We’re a basketball family and that’s what we do. I think that’s the next step.”
