Thoughts on the latest Bracketology

Notre Dame might not be in the latest edition of Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology, but it’s an interesting bracket right now.

Lunardi projects 10 ACC teams to get to the Big Dance. The SEC and Big 12 are next with eight teams followed by the Big East with six.

SOUTH
Virginia headlines the bracket and looking at the projected draw, it’s hard to not see the Cavaliers in the Sweet 16 despite not playing well in March in the past.

Overall, the bracket doesn’t have one team that just scares you outside of Virginia as Auburn, Texas Tech and Wichita State aren’t striking fear into opponents this year.

EAST
Villanova is the top seed and a matchup with No. 5 West Virginia would be a fascinating game in my opinion. Duke has all the talent in the world, but they have shown youthful mistakes all season.

Oklahoma as a No. 6 seed is interesting as Trae Young could carry them on a deep run if he’s on, but a second-round matchup against Cincinnati’s tough defense would be a heck of a battle.

MIDWEST
Maybe it’s just college basketball being even this year, but this bracket also doesn’t scare me. Xavier is a very good team, but Purdue and Clemson have shown they can be beaten on any given night.

Florida would be a tough draw for Clemson, but Tennessee and Michigan as the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds just doesn’t seem overly strong.

WEST
This bracket has the power. Kansas, Michigan State, North Carolina, Arizona, Gonzaga, Kentucky…good luck picking who comes out of that side of the bracket. You can make a case for any of those teams to make a Final Four run.

North Carolina vs. Kentucky and Gonzaga vs. Arizona would be phenomenal second round matchups.
