Top 2019 OL Target Zeke Correll Previews Notre Dame. Jr. Day
Harry Hiestand made a huge impression on Zeke Correll during the elite 2019 Ohio offensive lineman’s trip to Notre Dame back in October.
With Hiestand now with the Chicago Bears, new Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn will get his chance to impress when Correll returns for Notre Dame’s Junior Day this weekend.
And Correll is confident he will.
“Just getting to know Coach Quinn better,” the Cincinnati native said of what he wants to accomplish during the trip.
“Obviously, I just want to build a better relationship with him.”
Correll and Quinn have already started to build that relationship over the phone.
“I like him a lot,” the Anderson High School star said of Quinn. “Obviously, he’s a good coach. It’s not a job that’s taken lightly, the offensive line coach at Notre Dame. They’re not going to put in any Joe Schmo off the street.
“So, I definitely already have that respect for him, but I want to spend some time with him and get to know him a little more.”
Correll acknowledged not being thrilled to see Hiestand leave for the pros, but that hasn’t changed the way he views Notre Dame all that much.
“It wasn’t my favorite thing because he’s obviously a great coach and he went to the NFL,” he said. “Again, if you’re the offensive line coach at Notre Dame, you’re a great coach. I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with Coach Quinn.”
He’s also hoping for the chance to meet with some of the current players, but said that could happen during a later trip this spring.
“Get to know the players well to see how I’d see myself fitting in the program,” said Correll, who has a brother at Notre Dame Law School.
Correll’s offer sheet includes schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Clemson and Stanford among several others. He visited another one of his top schools earlier this month.
“I went to Ohio State like two weeks ago,” he said. “It was good. I got to know the coaches better, got to meet the players.”
He doesn’t have any future trips scheduled at the moment, but said “Clemson for sure” was one school he wanted to visit along with a couple others.
He plans to take his official visits in the spring, but doesn’t have a timetable for committing.
“Whenever I know is when I’ll decide. I’m not going to rush myself.”
