Notre Dame has brought on three more staff members to the defensive staff as Larry Black Jr. and Nick Lezynski have been added as graduate assistants and Chris O’Leary will hold a defensive analyst role.

Black earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana in 2012 before playing a year with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2013. At Indiana, Black was selected to the 2009 Sports News Freshman All-American and All-Big Ten teams as a defensive tackle. Black racked up 127 tackles, eight sacks, 27.5 tackles for loss and blocked a field goal in Bloomington.

Black spent two years as a graduate assistant at Toledo before heading to South Bend. He will work with the defensive line as Harland Bower left for South Alabama to be the defensive line coach.

Lezynski graduated from Notre Dame in 2011 and was a four-year member of the program as a walk-on. He worked as a graduate assistant for Bob Diaco at UConn on offense and special teams in 2014 and 2015 before moving the defensive side of the ball in 2016.

In 2017, Lezynski coached linebackers at Lafayette College (Pa.).

O’Leary was a graduate assistant at Georgia State from 2015 to January of 2017 after being a four-year letter winner at Indiana State. O’Leary coached safeties in 2017 at Florida Tech.
