Notre Dame has wanted 2019 Lutheran (Calif.) tight end Ethan Rae‍ on campus for quite some time, and the four-star prospect will be in South Bend on April 7th.

“I wanted to see the school and finally just get out to Notre Dame,” Rae told Irish Sports Daily. “I’ve mainly been talking with Coach (Chip) Long about setting up the trip.”

Long has started to develop a good relationship with the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder and is a big reason behind the unofficial visit.

“I feel comfortable with him, and it’s nice he’s the OC and tight ends coach,” stated Rae. “He’s really been trying to get me to visit for a while. I’m excited to get out there, and he’s pretty excited to have me on campus.”

Rae isn’t in decision mode, but the chance to experience life at Notre Dame will only help him out when he is ready to commit to a program.

“I’m just looking for a feeling like home,” said Rae. “I want to see what it’s like to be a student-athlete. I want to get the most out of my visit as I can.”

One thing Notre Dame does have is the well documented tight end lineage.

“With Coach Long as the OC and tight end coach, it’s a big deal,” Rae stated. “He’ll definitely incorporate the tight end position.”

Rae holds close to 20 offers from programs like Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Dartmouth, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC.

Several West Coast programs are coming at him hard as spring rolls around, but distance won’t play a factor in the end.

“Arizona State, Cal, Ole Miss, Oregon and USC are the schools off the top of my head that are recruiting me the hardest,” Rae said. “I don’t care where I end up. I just want to go to a place that feels like home. I want to go where I feel comfortable with the school and a place that will set me up for life after football. It doesn’t matter where it is.”

Rae is taking his time with his decision and will likely use all his official visits in the fall with a commitment coming after he wraps those up.

“I feel like I will wait on my official visits until the fall,” said Rae. “I’m probably going to wait out my decision until later on.”
