It’s the beginning of the end for Adam Berghorst's recruiting process‍.

The 2019 Michigan defensive end has all of the offers he needs and he’s made enough unofficial visits to narrow things down.

He’ll be ready to make a decision after taking one more round of trips over the next few weeks, beginning this weekend with his second stop at South Bend in as many months.

The 6-foot-7, 245-pounder picked up his Notre Dame offer during last month’s visit and is excited to return before a few other stops.

“Probably Michigan and Michigan State for spring practices and spring game,” he said of his other visit plans. “I’m going to probably go to Northwestern too. My brother plays at Central Michigan and they’re a great MAC program, so that could definitely be a visit I’d go on too. So those five.

“And then I’d like to decide from there.”

Since being offered by the Irish, the Zeeland East High School standout has remained in contact with defensive line coach Mike Elston.

“It’s been great,” Berghorst said. “We text back and forth quite a bit, phone calls. He just wanted me to come back up, so I’m really excited to go back and watch him coach and see him again.”

Berghorst is also a standout baseball prospect and is looking to play both sports in college.

“I spoke with Michigan State coaches for both and Michigan,” he explained. “I haven’t done that yet with Notre Dame, so I’m going to speak with both. Then, I just want to watch Coach Elston coach a football practice.”

Elston has let Notre Dame baseball coach Mik Aoki and his staff know about Berghorst.

Relationships with coaches for both sports will be important when he gets ready to make his final decision.

“Who I feel most comfortable with,” he said.

“Academics plays a pretty big role and Notre Dame is probably by far the best with that, although Northwestern isn’t too far behind.”
