John Young‍ was at Notre Dame for a game last fall and the 2020 Kentucky offensive lineman returned for Saturday’s spring game.

“It was great,” said the 6-foot-6, 281-pounder. “I got to see the practice facilities, the Gug. I got to see the weight room and the entire stadium and the academic centers attached to the Stadium.

“I got to see the Morris Inn, which was really cool, and Bookstore. Then, I went back over to the Stadium for the game.”

The Louisville native enjoyed the chance to see the game itself.

“I thought they looked good,” he said. “I thought they looked really good. The offensive line played good and it was really competitive between the two teams, so it was fun to watch.”

The Christian Academy of Louisville standout also had an opportunity to meet with new Notre Dame offensive line coach Jeff Quinn.

“He just said we’d be touching base soon,” he said.

Young already has offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Iowa State and Syracuse.

He said he would “love” to return to South Bend again, but also said there isn’t really anything else he feels he’d need to see.

“I think I got a good feel for it (Saturday), but I’d love to get back up there,” he said. “The atmosphere was great and the facilities were great too, so I’d love to get back up there for another visit.”

He doesn’t have any other visits scheduled right now and isn’t ready to claim any leaders among the schools that have offered.

“I’m keeping all of my options open right now,” said Young.

He did acknowledge how much an offer from the Irish would mean.

“That would mean a lot. They have a great offensive line tradition and it’d be really cool to have the opportunity to play for them.”
