Reed Ryan‍ got another chance to visit Notre Dame as a recruit this past weekend and the 2019 Wisconsin defensive end was again impressed.

“Everything went very well,” said the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder, who was in town for the Irish's Blue-Gold Game on Saturday.

“We toured around the campus a little bit. We learned more about Notre Dame’s history and sat and watched the game. After the game, I was able to speak with the coaches.”

Ryan spoke with defensive line coach Mike Elston along with assistants Tom Rees and Brian Polian.

“They seemed to be pretty impressed with my measureables,” the Waunakee, Wisc., native explained. “They took flexibility tests and that stuff. Coach Polian said he was really impressed and they would be looking into further recruiting me, which was great to hear.

“Notre Dame is probably one of the top schools on my list, so being able to go there and get that traction and start to build that relationship was really great.”

Ryan currently has offers from schools like Ball State, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Buffalo among others.

He pointed to Notre Dame’s tradition and academics as the key reasons he’s fond of the Irish.

“The high school I come from has a strong tradition of football,” he said. “The first thing would be the academics. Their academics are second to none. It’s a high-academic institution and they run parallel with the Ivy League schools.

“I would also say the strong faith of the school as well and the structure of the school with the way they run things. I come from a household with a lot of structure and because of the faith, I would strive under that.”

The Waunakee High School standout was also struck by the “beautiful” campus in South Bend.

“When we went there for the Miami-Ohio game my first time down there, the thing I couldn’t stop talking about was the campus,” he recalled. “All of the matching brick on all of the buildings, the true beauty and prestige of the campus is pretty great.”

Polian told Ryan they’d start communicating more moving forward while Rees said he’d stop by when he’s recruiting Wisconsin in a couple weeks. Ryan’s biggest shot to impress the staff will likely be at Notre Dame’s camp in June, which he expects to attend.

“I’ll show them my relentless in getting after the quarterback, my speed, power and my ability to make plays even though it may be unorthodox to do so. I’d say I’m able to do that from wrestling because you’re put in odd positions.”
