Mike McGlinchey Drafted By The 49ers With The 9th Pick
Mike McGlinchey continues the tradition of Notre Dame left tackles being drafted in the first round as the San Francisco 49ers selected the 6-foot-8, 315-pounder with the 9th pick.
McGlinchey also becomes Notre Dame's 68th first round draft pick in school history.
As a graduate student in 2017, McGlinchey started all 13 games at left tackle for the Fighting Irish and was a big part of Josh Adams rushing for a career-high 1,430 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns.
The two-time captain was named Maxwell Award and Outland Trophy Watch Lists, but his most significant honor was being named the 101st consensus All-American at Notre Dame and leading the Irish offensive line to win the 2017 Joe Moore Award.
McGlinchey committed to the Irish on March 25th, 2012 after a visit a few months before. He had offers from Duke, Miami, Michigan, and Florida State among others.
The Philadelphia native played in all 13 games 2014, typically on special teams. He earned his first career start at right tackle in the 31-28 Music City Bowl victory over No. 22 LSU on December 30th.
In 2015, McGlinchey started all 13 games at right tackle, helping an offensive line that helped three different players record 100-yard rushing games. He also blocked for an Irish rushing attack that recorded 457 yards against UMass which was the best single-game rushing total in 23 years.
McGlinchey started all 12 games at left tackle in 2016, helping Adams record four 100-yard rushing games against Nevada, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and USC. He was named a captain, and a was an AP Second Team All-American.
