TE Durham Smythe Selected By Miami
Durham Smythe will continue Notre Dame’s rich tradition of tight end play in Miami as the Dolphins selected him with the 123rd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
It was also an awesome moment as Johanna Feis, the sister of Stoneman Douglas football coach Aaron Feis, announced the selection.
The Belton (Texas) native will join former Notre Dame tight ends Tyler Eifert, Ben Koyack, Troy Niklas and Kyle Rudolph in the NFL as they followed John Carlson and Anthony Fasano.
The 6-foot-5, 257-pounder was initially committed to Texas but flipped to Notre Dame late in the recruiting cycle.
Smythe didn’t see action in his first season in South Bend, but played in 13 games in 2014, but only recorded one reception for seven yards.
In 2015, Smythe scored his first touchdown against Virginia on a fake field goal but left the game with a knee and shoulder injury, which caused him to miss the rest of the regular season.
As a senior, Smythe started 12 games for the Irish and caught nine balls for 112 yards and four scores. The Texas native almost doubled his production as a graduate student in 2017, as he recorded 15 receptions for 244 yards and one touchdown after being named to the Mackey Award Watch List to start the season.
