2019 St. Vianney (Mo.) running back Kyren Williams‍ has been focused on school and 7-on-7 as of late, but the four-star prospect did carve out time to make a trip to Michigan recently.

“It was a good visit, and I liked it,” the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder told Irish Sports Daily. “I like the school, the football team and the coaching staff.”

Williams is a top priority for Notre Dame, and he was in South Bend in January for Junior Day. The St. Louis native also saw several differences and similarities between Michigan and Notre Dame after getting close looks at both programs.

“Michigan is public, and Notre Dame is private,” explained Williams. “I saw a lot of things at Notre Dame I see at school now, and at Michigan, I saw some other stuff.

“Both are great schools academically and athletically. Both teams are good.”

Notre Dame is working with Williams on setting up an official visit, and it could come sooner than later.

“We’re talking right now about setting up my official visit for June 15th, but it’s not set yet,” stated Williams. “I haven’t set up any other visits. My recruitment is pretty even-keeled right now.”

While his recruitment has always been somewhat low key, Williams is just fine with it, but a new Midwest program entered the mix last week.

“Michigan State offered me recently,” said Williams. “They were the only school that has stopped by the school that I didn’t have an offer from.”

Speaking of coaches stopping by St. Vianney to check on Williams, Notre Dame running backs coach Autry Denson made a stop last week.

The two have started to develop a close relationship, and Williams looks forward to continuing the bond in the coming months.

“When we were at Junior Day, we were sitting in the running backs room, and he was very motivational,” Williams recalled. “Even my dad said he was ready to play after Coach Denson was done speaking.

“Our relationship is getting stronger. We talk on a daily basis, and he always sends a motivational quote or Bible verse every morning. We talk on the phone probably every week or every other week.”

On his return to Notre Dame, Williams is focused on relationships as he got an overview of life on and off the field at Junior Day.

“It will be about getting closer with the players and coaches,” said Williams. “I want to see how comfortable I am for a whole weekend.”
