It has been an up and down year for Notre Dame lacrosse, but the Irish look to be turning a corner at the right time as they won the ACC Lacrosse Championship over Virginia 17-7 on Sunday.

The title win got even sweet on Wednesday as the ACC named long-stick midfield John Sexton Defensive Player of the Year.

Sexton is no stranger to awards as the senior is a Tweaaraton Award nominee, a three-time All-ACC selection and a two-time All-American.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pounder has scored 10 goals in his career, but he has forced 68 turnovers and scooped 182 ground balls.

Sexton now joins Matt Landis, who won the ACC Defensive Player of the Year twice, as Notre Dame’s winners of the award.
