Five-Star Hoops Prospect Talks Latest Visits & More
The Notre Dame men’s basketball program had another chance to host its top prospect in the Class of 2019 a couple days ago and once again, Isaiah Stewart left impressed.
The five-star power forward from New York, who now goes to La Lumiere School in LaPorte, Ind., made visits to Indiana, Notre Dame and Michigan State on consecutive days this past Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
“They went well,” Stewart told Irish Sports Daily.
He started making visits to South Bend when he was still living in Rochester, N.Y., and has continued since moving to the Midwest.
“After a long season of travel ball, just getting back on the campus and going over film and all of those types of things,” he said of the highlights of his most recent visit to Notre Dame.
The 6-foot-9 forward said he likes what he’s seen from Notre Dame in terms of developing their bigs in recent years.
“It’s definitely a place I could picture myself playing,” he said.
“They just tell me I can come in and make an impact right away. My game would be more versatile.”
For Stewart, it was also good to reconnect with current Irish players Elijah Burns and TJ Gibbs, who he is close with.
He enjoyed himself in Bloomington and East Lansing as well.
“They were good,” he said. “The same thing. They were just showing me their system and showing how I could play in the system and building on how I could expand my game.”
This week, Stewart flies out to Colorado Springs to try out for USA Basketball’s U17 team.
After recently cutting his list to 10 schools – Notre Dame, Indiana, Michigan State, Duke, Georgetown, Syracuse, Villanova, Texas, Louisville and Washington – Stewart plans to trim that list in half.
He said he expects to do that “probably in July or August” with a final decision likely to come before the start of his senior season.
What are Notre Dame’s chances of surviving the next cut?
“Definitely very high.”
