Irish Make Cut With 2019 G Joe Girard III
Notre Dame may not have officially joined the game until late, but it looks like the Irish will be in the race for Joseph Girard III until the end.
The high-scoring 2019 guard from New York just announced a Top Six that included Notre Dame along with Duke, Michigan, Penn State, Boston College and Syracuse.
The Irish had scouted the Glens Fall High School star for a long time, but they didn’t decide to offer a scholarship until March after close scrutiny from the entire staff.
“It was a great moment for me,” Girard told Irish Sports Daily after the offer. “I was really proud to get that one. This has been in the works a long time, to know that I’ve worked hard and gotten it is something I’m proud of.”
For the last few months, his focus has been on his summer league squad, but said he would look into getting to Notre Dame for a visit at some point after traveling to South Bend for a football game last fall.
“I’ll probably just want to see where I would fit in,” he told us at the time. “They’ve had a lot of traditional players like me, but I’d just want to see what the roster would look like and where I would be able to fit in with the team and the roster
With one more season of high school ball left, Girard is already the state’s all-time leading scorer after averaging about 50 points a game as a junior.
Girard plays AAU ball for The City Rocks, the same program as Notre Dame’s other top 2019 target, forward Isaiah Stewart.
