2020 OH PG Dominiq Penn Looking To Get Back To Notre Dame
Dublin Coffman (Ohio) point guard Dominiq Penn is quickly becoming one of the Midwest’s top prospects in the 2020 class. College coaches can now initiate contact with 2020 recruits, the 6-foot, 165-pounder has already heard from a few programs.
“I heard from Miami (OH), Michigan and Ohio State so far,” Penn told Irish Sports Daily.
Penn holds early offers from Duquesne, Kent State, Ohio State, St. Louis and Stony Brook.
The Ohio State offer sticks out as he lives 10 minutes from campus and his dad, Scoonie Penn, was a star point guard for the Buckeyes.
“It meant a lot with my dad going there,” Penn said of the offer from the Buckeyes. “I’m thankful for it as I am with any other offer.”
Notre Dame’s staff is well aware of the Dublin Coffman star as they hosted Penn last October and are expected to watch him play this summer.
“I really loved the campus and the coaching staff,” Penn stated. “I plan on going back there soon. I just really loved the school.”
It’s clear Penn and his family were impressed with what they saw from the Notre Dame program on the visit, and it starts with assistant coach Ryan Ayers.
“I have the best relationship with Coach Ayers,” explained Penn. “He’s been a great guy to my family and me. I know my mom and sister liked him a lot on the visit. He’s a great coach too.”
Mike Brey’s reputation of being the ‘Loosest Coach in America’ has gained traction nationally over the last few seasons and Penn was impressed with he heard from Brey during the October visit.
“I like him a lot,” stated Penn. “We got to meet, and he spoke to my family. We talked about life and what was going on at home. He started talking about coming to watch me during AAU season.
“He wanted me to come back up once the new facilities got done.”
Penn’s recruitment is just starting to take off, but he plans to major in Business and has an idea of what he will be looking for in a future program.
“I’m going to look at what school appreciates me the most,” said Penn. “My family will have a part in my decision. It’s a big decision, so I want to find what school is most comfortable.
“It’s also more than basketball. I want to see how the players are at the school, the campus and how the environment is at the school. All that will go into my decision.”
Penn averaged 16.6 points per game in 2017. He also dropped 30 points, four rebounds and four assists to help Dublin Coffman win the District Title over 2018 Notre Dame signee Dane Goodwin and Upper Arlington.
