Brian Kelly is 6-1 in home openers during his time at Notre Dame. The one blemish was the debacle against USF all the way back in 2011, but aside from that, he has won home openers very convincingly. The average margin of victory in those six wins was 29.7 points.

This year is different, though. They aren’t playing a Group of 5 opponent like they did in three of those years. They also aren’t facing Purdue (twice) or a struggling Texas program.
