“To get the Notre Dame offer is definitely a big milestone" - 2020 ATH Curtis Jacobs
Notre Dame picked up a commitment from Maryland native Cam Hart on Wednesday, but the Irish are also in good shape with another prospect from the area.
2020 McDonogh (Md.) athlete Curtis Jacobs made his way to South Bend a few weeks ago for Notre Dame’s Elite Skills Camp and left with an offer.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder stood out on both sides of the ball during the camp and the coaching staff couldn’t let him leave town without offering.
“I came back the next day and Coach (Clark) Lea offered me,” Curtis told Irish Sports Daily. “They let me tour the campus too. I loved the campus, and the facilities are amazing. It was one of the best I’ve seen.”
The four-star prospect knows a Notre Dame offer is an opportunity few prospects get and now it’s about figuring out where he projects at the next level.
“To get the Notre Dame offer is definitely a big milestone,” said Jacobs. “Prestigious universities like that don’t offer everyone. That makes it more special.
“I was offered at receiver, defensive back and possibly linebacker.”
Jacobs was one of the few prospects that worked out on both sides of the ball during Notre Dame’s three Elite Skills Camps, and he picked up a few things from defensive backs coaches Terry Joseph and Todd Lyght.
“I didn’t get to spend that much time with the offense,” stated Curtis. “I was there for the 1-on-1s, but defensively, I learned a lot about turning my hips and staying on the line as a defensive back.”
The chance to learn but also get a feel for the coaching style of the Notre Dame coaches was something Jacobs wanted to experience, and he also embraced it during the two-hour session.
“The coaching was great,” explained Jacobs. “They are tough coaches, but I like that because I know they can get the best out of their players.”
In addition to Notre Dame, Jacobs holds offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, UConn, Georgia Tech, Kent State, Maryland, Nebraska, Penn State, Pitt, Temple, Virginia and West Virginia.
Jacobs isn’t in a hurry to make a decision, but he knows when he wants to make it.
“I’ll definitely have my college decision ready by next summer,” said Jacobs.
