Five-Star 2020 Center Hunter Dickinson Focused On Notre Dame Official
Hunter Dickinson has been near or at the top of Notre Dame’s recruiting board for the Class of 2020 for a while now.
The 7-foot center from Maryland has already visited South Bend once and thanks to a change in NCAA rules, he’ll be back this weekend for an official visit.
“He came on an unofficial sometime last fall,” DeMatha Catholic head coach Mike Jones said. “Obviously, with the new rule changes and the timeline changing a little bit, the fact that he gets to get on their campus this soon just gives him more information as he looks to make a decision.”
Dickinson was offered by the Irish as a freshman and currently has offers from schools like Maryland, Virginia, Syracuse, Stanford, Florida State, Iowa, Illinois and many others. It’s not clear when he will make a final decision.
“He doesn’t really have a timetable, but obviously, the more information he gets, the better decision he’ll be able to make,” Jones said.
Notre Dame has a long history with DeMatha, the school that Mike Brey, Rod Balanis, Jerian Grant and DJ Harvey all attended. Jones believes it could be a potential fit for Dickinson as well.
“If he were to decide to pick Notre Dame, obviously Coach Brey is a great coach,” Jones said. “They play in a great league. There’s some success with DeMatha guys going to Notre Dame.
“There’s a lot of things. It’s a great academic institution. Hunter is a very strong student, so all of those things are good indications that they should be amongst the schools he considers.”
Dickinson is still considering other programs and has other official visits locked in right now, but he hasn’t made those public yet.
“We’re not disclosing those,” Jones said. “We’re not talking about those.
“We’re focusing on the one at hand and that’s this weekend.”
