After a visit to Notre Dame a few months back, 2020 Ohio shooting guard Grant Huffman is looking forward to returning to South Bend this weekend.

“I went down there this spring and I really liked it,” the 6-foot-4, 175-pounder said. “I really like Notre Dame, so I’m trying to get down there again to see a football game and see the environment there.

“They have awesome tradition, that’s what they’re known for. They just put in a huge basketball facility. I also know their academics are superb.”

The St. Edward High School standout got a peek at Notre Dame during his initial trip.

“I got to see the construction zone where they were building their new facility,” he explained. “We walked around campus a little bit, we saw individual classrooms. We saw the Grotto, which was really cool. Then we walked around and saw the churches.”

The message from the coaches in South Bend was relatively simple.

“Just that I’ve got to keep working out, I’ve got to work on my shot a little bit, just to keep working,” Huffman said.

The Lakewood, Ohio native has offers from Xavier, Duquesne and Miami-Ohio. He said he’s also been in contact with schools like Davidson, Toledo, Ohio State and West Virginia.

He was at Duquesne for a visit earlier this month. He doesn’t have any other visits beyond Notre Dame locked in yet.

Huffman has an idea of what he’s looking for in a college and Notre Dame could check those boxes.

“My relationship with the coaching staff is a huge thing,” he said. “Also, how I fit into the program, my style of play. I know how I play and I know from watching how they play as well. Also, the academics at the school and obviously the basketball program.

“I would say I’m more of a slasher and I’m also developing my shot right now, so I think I could shoot pretty good right now as well.”
