DC Tabscott‍ was excited to visit Notre Dame, but after experiencing South Bend this weekend, the 2021 Tennessee quarterback knows it’s something he won’t soon forget.

“It went awesome,” the 6-foot-3, 180-pounder said. “Notre Dame is just a special place, solid history, the mystique of it, everything. It was a bucket-list trip for sure.”

The Nashville native, who has an early offer from Kentucky, got a long look at the school and the program.

“First, we got there and breakfast and sat down and watched some College Gameday,” he explained. “Then we took a tour of the facilities, so weight room, got height/weight. We saw where they’re building the new indoor facility. Then we went on the campus tour after we saw the team rooms. It was really awesome.

“It was really cool to touch the Play Like A Champion Today sign, see all of the history and really feel it. We went down to the field for warmups, that was cool. Being inside that stadium is just a great feeling.”

Tabscott had a chance to speak with Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Tom Rees.

“That was really cool,” said Tabscott. “I got some good connections. We watched a great game and it was a good win for the Irish.

“He’s a very personable guy. The conversation with him was talking about how it’s still early in the process and that they definitely see me down the road. They want to see me this summer and spring. They said evaluating this year on film and having a good year would be a big thing for me.”

The Father Ryan High School standout enjoyed getting a look at the Irish in person.

“I really liked the physicality of Notre Dame Football and how they fought back through some questionable calls,” he said. “There were definitely some chances to lay down because of adversity, but they didn’t do that. They kept fighting and came out with the win. It kind of made it more enjoyable to see the full atmosphere and Irish Nation get behind them.

“They run a spread offense obviously. As far as Father Ryan and our scheme, very similar. Getting the ball out to athletes, but give the quarterback chances to drop back and make reads down the field. That’s one thing I think I excel in, reading the defense and putting the ball in the right spot when it needs to be there. I think the scheme fits very well with my skillset and what I can do.”

This was the first unofficial visit for Tabscott this fall.

“I’ve just been focused on high school football right now and helping my team be the best we can be early in the season. There’s a possibility we could make it to a couple more later in the season, but nothing scheduled in stone yet.”

He’s also considering stops at Kentucky, Memphis and Tennessee.
