2020 LB Malcolm Britt Talks Recent Notre Dame Stop
Malcolm Britt was admittedly surprised to land scholarship offers from Temple and Old Dominion in April and June, respectively.
“It was a bit of a shock at first, but I’m blessed to know I’ve done something I’ve dreamed of since I was younger,” the 2020 linebacker from Virginia said.
“You also have to remain humble and not take it for granted and keep working.”
The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder is also receiving interest from several other schools, including Notre Dame, which is what brought him to South Bend for the Irish’s game against Stanford a couple weeks back.
“It went good,” Britt said of the trip. “I had a nice time. I liked it a lot.
“First, we went to the locker room. They showed us around. We had a players’ panel with the past players who were visiting. We got to eat some food and chat with the coaches before they went on the field. Then we got to see them warm up on the field.”
The Oscar Smith High School standout enjoyed watching the Irish beat Stanford 38-17.
“The game was great,” he said. “The atmosphere was amazing. The stadium was loud. They had an advantage just because of all the fans that were there. It was a different type of atmosphere that I’d never experienced.
“I definitely liked how they play, they kind of play how we do at Oscar Smith. They run the same defense. They let their linebackers get after the ball and they can cover as well.”
Britt had a chance to speak with a couple Irish staffers while in town,
“I got to talk to the defensive line coach and the recruiting coordinator,” he said. “You could tell they’re focused more on hard work and academics. When they were talking to all of the recruits, they were talking about how when you commit, it’s about more than football, it’s about education. They all go to study hall and they set them up for life after football.”
The Chesapeake native plans on staying in touch with the staff in South Bend.
“Just keep building relationships with the coaches and try to figure out if Notre Dame is a good fit for me for the next four years and just try to finish out the rest of the season strong with my team,” he said.
Britt was at Old Dominion last month for the Monarchs’ upset victory over Virginia Tech.
“That game was crazy,” he said.
He was also at Wake Forest earlier this month for the Demon Deacons’ game against Clemson and has plans to get to Stanford next month.
“A lot of coaches like my size and like how smart I play and how I’m versatile. I can play multiple positions on defense. I can play outside linebacker, strong safety, defensive end and inside if they really need me to.”
