Ethan Hurkett‍ had the chance to visit Notre Dame for this past weekend’s game against Pittsburgh and the 2020 Iowa linebacker enjoyed the experience.

“It went pretty good, actually,” Hurkett said. “I had a great time. I loved the atmosphere and everything. It was a great time.

“We started off and checked in at about 10, saw a question-and-answer type thing with some of the current players and had our measurements taken. Then, we got to see the facilities and then see the team walk into the stadium and warm up.”

The Cedar Rapids native was impressed with the Gug.

“I thought they were top-notch facilities,” the 6-foot-3, 228-pounder said. “The locker room was crazy. The equipment and everything is really nice.”

The Walk was also something that stood out to Hurkett.

“I thought it was really cool with the bagpipes and everything with all of the energy,” he said. “It was a great atmosphere and it was really cool to see the players.”

The atmosphere inside the stadium also made a strong impression on the Xavier High School standout.

“It was a great atmosphere,” he said. “It was really loud. I liked how loud it gets on third down, the videos were cool, how it was too loud to hear the coaches talk back in the day.”

Hurkett wasn’t surprised that Pitt gave the Irish its best shot.

“I thought they played pretty well on defense, especially,” he said. “But of course, when you’re one of the top-ranked teams in the country like them, everyone is going to play you as hard as they can, which makes it tougher. It was a good game to watch.”

While in town, he had the opportunity to speak with Director of Football Recruiting Aaryn Kearney.

“I talked with him about who else is recruiting me,” said Hurkett, who is also receiving interest from schools like Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota and some Ivy League schools.

“He told me to keep sending film and try to keep in touch with them. I plan on staying in touch and sending my highlights.”

Overall, Hurkett enjoyed the trip.

“I went to a camp like three years back,” he said. “It was my second time seeing the campus and everything. It’s really nice and I had a great time there.

“I think it’s a great football program overall with all of that tradition and all of those championships and stuff like that.”
