2020 TE Marshall Lang Talks Recent Notre Dame Stop

Marshall Lang‍ was in South Bend for Notre Dame’s spring game back in April and back again for a camp during the summer, but those stops couldn’t compare to the 2020 Ohio tight end’s trip for this month’s game against Pittsburgh.

“It was awesome,” the 6-foot-3, 215-pound junior said. “What a great game, what a perfect day to watch football.”

The Cincinnati native had the chance to get a closer look at the school and the program.

“There was a lady who took us through campus a little bit,” he explained. “We started off in the Gug, getting registered and everything, got height/weight and a little flexibility test. She took us to a question-and-answer meeting where we saw four freshmen. The general idea of the question was, ‘What was your transition? How did you transition from high school to college? What was it like? What were some great things? What were some things you have to overcome?’

“It helped me realize that it’s not really that much different from high school. You just have more responsibilities and I guess there is a lot more pressure on you.”

After that, Lang and the other recruits headed to see the team walk into the stadium.

“We got front row seats on that, so that was pretty sweet,” he said. “There was a little reserved section for us. I loved watching the players go in, that was pretty sweet.

“Then, we made our way into the player lounge. We talked to Coach (Jeff) Quinn, had a nice conversation about him. Some of the recruiting coordinators were talking about their everyday football stuff and what’s going on. After that, we made our way to the field to watch them warm up, that was pretty sweet. Some big mammals out there, they’re some big boys.”

The St. Xavier High School product was thrilled with his spot to watch the game right in front of the Notre Dame student section.

“What a section to be sitting in,” he said. “You could see everything. We watched a great game.”

He called the atmosphere in the stadium “unreal.”

“You grow up with your parents and friends talking about, ‘Notre Dame is this. Notre Dame is that,’” he continued. “What they say about Notre Dame is actually true. It’s unreal.”

He’s already been to games at Miami-Ohio and Cincinnati this fall. He’s also receiving interest from schools like Indiana, Ball State, Harvard, Yale and Penn.

The visits this fall have helped show Lang that college is truly just the next step.

“My dad and I were talking about this,” he explained. “When we got down to it, it’s not really all that much different from high school. We have the same type of plays, you catch the ball, you get a touchdown. The only difference is people are bigger, faster, stronger and the competition is harder.

“It’s just proportional to high school football. As you get stronger and faster, the opponent gets stronger and faster. Nothing really changes, you’re just playing the game.”

He doesn’t have anything planned to get back to South Bend, but if he can, he will.

“I’d love to go back to another game. It’s awesome.”
