Sean Timmis‍ was proactive in his approach to recruiting and it’s resulted in the 2020 Wisconsin offensive lineman being invited down to Notre Dame for the Irish’s home finale against Florida State on Saturday.

“I sent my film over there, midseason highlights that I put together,” Timmis explained. “I sent it to Aaryn Kearney, the recruiting director, and about three weeks later, they hit me back and invited me to a couple of games.”

The Milwaukee native comes into the trip with a high opinion of Notre Dame.

“The school itself, it’s one of the top schools in the country, also the football team,” he said of what he likes. “Right now, they’re ranked number three, but also, it’s just a storied program and somewhere I’d want to play. I think anyone would be crazy not to want to play there.”

Timmis was “pretty excited” to be invited for a game after sending in his film.

“I didn’t know what to expect because I don’t think there’s been a ton of players from my high school to go there,” he said. “I think the last one to go on full scholarship was like 20 years ago. It was pretty exciting though, especially to get down there for an atmosphere like that.”

He’s looking forward to learning more about the school and the program.

“The facilities for sure because that’s pretty important, the core of the team, how the players are, the campus,” he said. “I have a lot of friends who go there and we’re friends with a lot of alumni. They say great things about the games. I’ve never personally been to one, but I figured it’s a great experience and I can’t wait to see what it’s like on the inside.”

Timmis was at Northwestern for its game against Nebraska last month.

“I got invited to a lot of places, but I haven’t been able to go to a lot of them,” he acknowledged. “I’m also going to Miami-Ohio on the 20th. I was going to try to make it to Syracuse for a game, but it’s kind of far to get a flight out there and we’re in the playoffs.”

Timmis will also be at Wisconsin later this month.

He is waiting on his first offer, but has received some encouraging feedback, especially from the Wildcats.

“The way it was with Northwestern, they didn’t tell me what they liked until I got there,” he explained. “The o-line coach and a lot of the guys in the recruiting department said, ‘We really like how you move in the open field and that you have a good frame.’ I’m 6-5, 260 pounds, so I’m a tall guy and I have a frame that can be built out a lot. They like that I’m pretty athletic for a tackle.”

Education will be a major focus when it’s time for the Marquette University High School standout makes his final decision along with several other factors.

“Notre Dame is one that hits all of those areas.”
