Notre Dame has had an eventful road to 9-0, but the Irish have overcome adversity at every turn and have positioned themselves at the #3 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings with three games to play.

The Irish will face another hurdle this weekend as starting quarterback Ian Book will be out for Saturday’s game against Florida State, according to multiple sources,

The 6-foot, 203-pounder suffered multiple injuries to his midsection during this past week's game at Northwestern, which will prevent him from playing in Saturday’s game.

Since becoming Notre Dame’s starting quarterback in Week Four, Book has led the Irish offense to new heights as the unit has averaged 491 yards and 38.3 points per game under his leadership.

Individually, Book is the nation’s leader in completion percentage at 74.5% while throwing for 1,824 yards, 15 touchdowns and just four interceptions, which has landed him as a semifinalist for the Davey O' Brien Award and Maxwell Award.

Brandon Wimbush, who began the year as the starter, will step back into the spotlight as QB1 at Notre Dame after leading the Irish to three straight victories to begin the season.

"He's been such a big part of our success this year," head coach Brian Kelly stated on Tuesday. "He's got to stay ready. Who knows what happens, right? Every week we remind him. He knows that he's one step away from going back out on the field.

"He's practiced really well. I think that's the biggest thing more than anything else, is it's easy to lose your edge when you're not starting. He's fought that. So he's just been a great teammate and he's kept himself prepared."

But Wimbush completed just 55.3% of his passes for 589 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions while adding 144 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Notre Dame’s signature win of the season came in Week One with Wimbush behind center for the Irish's 24-17 win over Michigan. Wimbush completed 12 of 22 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown, one interception and racked up 59 rushing yards.

A timetable for Book’s return is unknown at this point, although there's some hope he'll be ready for the Syracuse game on November 17th at Yankee Stadium.
