Elijah Burns Leaves Hoops Program
As if the season wasn’t tough enough for Mike Brey, the Notre Dame basketball program got bad news on Tuesday as senior forward Elijah Burns has left the program per a release by the Irish program.
“We fully support Elijah in his decision to move on from the University of Notre Dame following his graduation in December,” stated head coach Mike Brey. “We will provide any assistance he may need as he takes the next step in his academic and playing careers.
“It is always tough when one of our guys doesn’t end his career here, but we are proud that he will achieve the ultimate goal of any student-athlete that comes through our program - to leave Notre Dame with a degree from one of the top institutions in the country.”
Burns will have a full year of eligibility left after redshirting his freshman season.
Burns was averaging 5.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in 11.3 minutes this season but played just three minutes during Saturday’s 73-64 win over William & Mary.
