I don’t know if USC defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast is going to be retained by Clay Helton or not, but if he isn’t, he went out swinging.

On the 67 plays Notre Dame ran before the final three kneel downs, Pendergast blitzed 32 times (47.8%). In the first half he blitzed on 19 of 34 plays (55.9%).

It was probably the best plan with the personnel they had and it worked fairly well only giving up 24 points. In the end, though, Kirk Herbstreit was correct.
