Mike Brey wanted to get out to see Trey Galloway a couple months back, but the Notre Dame men’s basketball head coach pushed it back because Galloway was hobbled by a minor injury.

Brey had seen Galloway before, but on Tuesday night, he got the chance to see the 2020 Indiana swingman again.

The Irish coach was obviously impressed as he personally extended a scholarship to Galloway on Wednesday afternoon over the phone.

“He sees me like some of the players who have been there before,” the 6-foot-3, 180-pound junior said of Brey. “He said one of the things they like about me is having a feel for the game.”

The Culver Academy standout also has offers from schools like Michigan State, Iowa and Butler among others, but the offer from the Irish makes a major impact.

“It means a lot,” Galloway said. “It definitely compares to Culver. It’s got some similarities to Culver with Notre Dame having such high standards. I really like the coaching staff a lot.”

Galloway has been to South Bend a couple times, including a trip for a football weekend back in September, but wants to return soon.

“I talked with Coach Brey a little bit and he said he wanted to look at some times to get me back there,” Galloway explained. “I’ve been on campus a couple of times and played with the guys and got a feel for the guys and been shown around.

“But I’d like to get a chance to see them play this year because I haven’t really had a chance to see them play much. It’d be good to get up there and I’ll probably be going to see a game this winter break.”

Galloway said he doesn’t have any leaders at this point.

“I’m talking my time with it. I’m focusing on the high school season right now. When my high school season is over, I’ll definitely start to look into it more, but right now, I’m just focused on my season and keep building those relationships.”
