Recruitment Rundown
The Irish identified Carroll as a top target very early in the process, but unlike dozens of other major programs, Notre Dame didn’t rush into offering the Minnesota native. That didn’t bother Carroll one bit, which was an early sign that his interest in the Irish was extremely serious. Carroll has family members that have played sports at various colleges, but his family long held an affection for Notre Dame. It came down to Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Ohio State and Minnesota. In the end, the mystique of Notre Dame and the football tradition along with the academics, the faith aspect of the school and Jeff Quinn led to Carroll committing on May 1st.

Head Coach Derrik Lamker
“Most o-linemen don’t have that type of aggression. He’s aggressive from the start of the play to the end of the play and everywhere in between. That’s kind of what got people’s eyes. Obviously, his size and strength and his footspeed are big parts of it too.”

ISD expert Jamie Uyeyama
He moves like a much smaller player and is a good athlete for his size. It’s the athleticism that he showcased again as a senior that makes him an intriguing talent. He’s a natural knee bender that plays with great leverage.

It would not surprise me to see him be the heir apparent at right tackle after Robert Hainsey graduates. Carroll will need some time to develop like every offensive lineman making the jump from high school, but athletically he is someone that I can see competing for playing time as early as his second year in the program.

Favorite quote to ISD
“I will miss (Harry Hiestand). He was a great guy and I loved being recruited by him. I’m just excited for the future of Notre Dame with Coach Quinn and I’m excited for Coach Hiestand for his future with the Bears. It was a draw to a lot of recruits, but now that he’s gone, I don’t think it will draw recruits away.”
