2020 MA ATH Cam Large Looking Forward To Building Relationships At Notre Dame
2020 Noble and Greenough School (Mass.) athlete Cam Large has gained a ton of attention over the last few months as Boston College, LSU Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State are a few of the programs who have offered since January.
Notre Dame could be next as the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder will be in South Bend this weekend for a Junior Day visit.
“I talked to Coach (Jeff) Quinn on the phone about getting to Notre Dame for a visit,” Large told Irish Sports Daily. “He wants to see me in person and talk more because we’ve only talked over the phone. They want to talk about where they see me in the program. They see me as more of a tight end than a defensive end but said I could probably play either.”
Large is from a somewhat pro-Notre Dame area, so he’s aware of the opportunities on and off the field Notre Dame brings to the table.
“I know a fair amount about Notre Dame,” stated Large. “It’s one of those schools you see at the top athletically and they have a great academic program as well as a really good network.”
As far as where Large will play in college, it will be a tough decision. Some programs want him as a tight end, while others see him as a defensive end, but Large doesn’t have a preference.
“It’s pretty mixed,” explained Large. “It’s probably 60/40 tight end vs. defensive end right now. I have no preference. I love playing football. Wherever they can put me on the field to help them win that’s where I’ll play.”
With the uptick in his recruitment, Large has embraced the extra attention and hasn’t let it impact his work ethic.
“It’s been great,” said Large. “It’s awesome seeing a program take a chance on me. When they want you to be part of their program like Ohio State, Notre Dame or LSU, it’s awesome because they are always on top of the rankings.
“I was prepared for it. It’s one of those things when you work for it this hard your whole life, you know it’s eventually going to come. It felt really good when I got to this point, but it hasn’t slowed me down at all. I know I’m going to keep working. I’ve just set higher goals.”
Following his trip to Notre Dame, Large will head to two other top programs in March.
“I have Ohio State on March 8th and then LSU on March 16th,” Large said. “Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin and LSU are recruiting me the hardest. Notre Dame is probably next.”
“It would be a big deal for me. It’s a school that has a lot of what I’m looking for.”
When Large arrives in South Bend this weekend, he’ll be looking forward to building relationships with the Notre Dame staff and also learning more about each aspect of the program.
“I’m excited to talk to the coaches in-depth,” said Large. “It means a lot more to me that way. I’m excited to see everything because I’ve never been there before.”
