Since receiving an offer from Notre Dame shortly after Christmas, JuTahn McClain‍ has been looking forward to getting up to South Bend for a visit.

The 2020 Ohio running back will get the chance this weekend when he makes the trip for the Irish’s Junior Day.

“Definitely academics,” said McClain when asked what he’s looking forward to seeing most while on campus.

“I want to see how the team is and what their life is like outside, how it is with the dorms and build a relationship with the coaches and see what the relationships are like between the coaches and players.”

Since the offer back in December, the Fairfield High School star and Notre Dame offensive coordinator Chip Long have kept in touch.

“We’ve been texting every other day,” McClain explained. “We’ve been consistent with our texts.

“He’s just been talking to me and saying how they have to get me up soon and how they can’t wait to get me there this weekend.”

McClain hasn’t yet caught up with new Irish running backs coach Lance Taylor, but is looking forward to this weekend.

“We just followed each other on Twitter, but we haven’t met yet,” he said. “That’s really important. We both could have an early impact if I do go there, it’d be something special because we’d both bring something new to the program.”

McClain also has offers from schools like Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, West Virginia, Kentucky, Louisville, Cincinnati and Duke among several others. The Irish had his attention long before they offered.

“Notre Dame is really good,” he said. “I used to watch movies and shows about Notre Dame and I was really into it. Ever since then, I was looking at Notre Dame and learning about the program. When they threw me the offer, it was exciting and I looked forward to coming up there.”

He hasn’t hit the road much recently, but will head out to West Virginia next weekend. Beyond that, he isn’t quite sure.

McClain isn’t in a rush to make a final decision, hoping to narrow his list down to five or three schools before choosing one.
